Wearing orange has a bigger meaning to it especially when people wear it on certain days and for a purpose. Society has named June 2nd as the National Gun Violence Awareness day due to there being more than 30,000 Americans die from gun-violence each year and the emotional effect that it has on family and friends is hard to watch. Losing people from gun violence should not be the way that people die, and no one should think that they are greater than another person by taking out a gun and shooting them. I think that when people have guns that think they are in control over the next individual even when the individual is not a threat. Understanding that we can not suggest what is a threat or not to each other but understanding that if the person does not have a gun or weapon out on you then why do you feel the need to have one? In 2013, Chicago teenager, Hadiya Pendleton, who I knew personally was shot outside of her school by gang bangers that thought her and her friends were a rival gang. This shooting took the neighborhood, city, and even the Obamas family by storm knowing that the violence in this country is for unnecessary reasons. When I found out that Hadiya lost her life to gun violence due to there being a lack of gun control, I was upset. She was a educated, involved, motivated, role model, that did not deserve to be taken away from her parents at a young age. Taken away by the actions of gang bangers, her fellow classmates deiced to wear orange shirts in remembrance of her and the great life she lived. The city caught on to the movement and eventually gun activists started to wear orange on a larger platform so that politicians could see what people with guns are doing to innocent bystanders. “The color orange symbolizes the value of human life” and that with people are showing the value of all the lives lost from the lack of control and to show the government how easy of access it is to obtain a weapon illegally. Orange association with hunting garments, road safety, and caution signs represents that people need to be aware of their surroundings and show care for others. For hunting the article states that hunters are suggested to wear orange as a sign of don’t shoot. I think that the necessity of needing to warn people of not harming each other should be common sense but as I was told at a young age is that not all sense is common. It is unfair for people to take lives away from family and friends to show that they are the toughest because that is not the case. Bringing awareness to the problem is going to help gun violence and implement gun control laws for America. Helping with advocating, peaceful protest, going to council meetings is what shows that you are the toughest not being a part of the problem.
